Some precisions concerning the race

The 6th edition of the Joelettes World Championship will take place in the same place once again at Bourcefranc le Chapus on an identical course.

In 2011, 52 teams were present and came from all over France ( Territory of Belfort, Paris region, Brittany) and even Dinant in Belguim. Exactly like last year there will be 3 classifications: women, men, and "scratch".

However for this year there is something new for the 2012 edition: groups of walkers / ramblers of the region will be invited to encourage the brave competitors. Indeed , before the departure of the joelette race which is 10am. for the first teams the ramblers will have the possibility to see the race course and discover Bourcefranc Le Chapus, the old village, the port, and the oyster production. It is planned that groups of ramblers take the circuit from 8.30 onwards until 9.30am in the opposite direction to that of the joelettes teams.

This solidarity walk for the handicapped will be accessible for a payment of 5 euros per person for the right to participate. This will give access to the refreshment points on the course and oyster tasting at the end of the race.

Report of the Edition 2011

It was during Ascension weekend that was held the 5th edition of our world championship race in partnership with « Demoiselle FM. »

For the second year running it was the town of Bourcefranc le Chapus that welcomed on Saturday, June 4, 52 teams that had came from all over France(territory of Belfort, Nanterre or Bretagne) and from Dinant in Belgium.

The race of 12 kilometres long took place in the streets of the town, and passed by the port , the old village and part of the oyster quarter where installations permitted the competitors to run.

There were three classes: women, men and « scratch »

The competitors made a remarkable performance; for instance the winning team covered the distance in 40 minutes despite the heat (and the midges which were not at all invited!).

There were in fact lots of these small flies that hindered the runners, who were already suffering from the heavy atmosphere due to a storm which eventually broke at the beginning of the evening.

These accumulated elements were without a doubt the reason why one of the runners was taken ill some hundreds of metres before the finish line.The security services rapidly came into action and the worries of the organizers quickly passed.

At the end of the course it was a real pleasure to see the joy on the faces of the runners that had been transported when they received their prizes.Cups were presented for the first three teams in each category; medals and USB keys were offered as souvenirs to each competitor.

On this subject a very big thank you to all the generous donators, regional bodies, local or private who contributed to the success of this beautiful day.

The Charente - Maritime hot air balloon was present but owing to wind conditions it was only able to operate during a part of the morning. Equally a very big thank you to the oyster farmers, associations and the officials of the Bourcefranc Le Chapus Town Council for all the help that they gave.
